Last year I experienced a problem where Internet Explorer 6 was complaining that there was a mix of http and https communication between the browser and the website.

Here is what was happening:
If you are viewing a page using the https:// protocol (as seen in the address bar) and one file in your source code is referencing a file using the http:// protocol, Internet Explorer 6 complains that there is a mixture of protocols being using for the currently viewed page.

This is quite a common problem for websites that use JavaScript libraries like jQuery and MooTools with CDN's (Content Delivery Networks) like Google and Microsoft's Content Delivery Networks.
