Short answer: in 2026 a simple business website in New Zealand costs us from $999 + GST, an online store from $2,995, and a basic web app from $4,990. This article explains where those numbers come from and what makes a quote go up or down, so you can compare any quote you get, including ours.
Our published prices
| What you're building | Our fixed price (+ GST) | Typical time to launch |
|---|---|---|
| Simple website, a few pages | from $999 | about a week |
| Business website rebuild, about 12 pages | about $4,500 | 2 to 4 weeks |
| Online store (Shopify or WooCommerce) | from $2,995 (Aiva free for the first month) | 2 to 6 weeks |
| Basic web app (PWA) | from $4,990 | a few weeks |
| Bigger app, built in stages | typically $25,000 to $60,000 | three stages, each approved |
| Hosting and care | $49 to $150 a month | ongoing |
These are the same numbers on our pricing page. We publish them because most agencies don't, and because a buyer who knows the range asks better questions.
What actually drives the cost of a website
A website quote is mostly hours. Whoever you hire, the hours come from the same handful of things:
- The number of different page layouts. Twenty pages that share two templates cost far less than eight pages that each look different. Layouts drive design and build time more than page count does.
- Content. Moving and tidying existing content takes real time, and writing new content takes more. If your copy is ready, the quote drops.
- Integrations. Bookings, CRMs, Xero, payment gateways and stock systems each add a defined piece of work. They are often where the value is, so they are worth paying for, but they are never free.
- Products, for stores. A store with 50 products and one with 2,000 products, variants and trade pricing are different projects. Data checking is a big share of any migration.
- Protecting your rankings. A redirect map from every old URL to its new home. Skipping it is the most expensive saving you can make, because lost search traffic costs more than the website.
A worked example
Here is a typical 12-page business website rebuild, the way we price it. First, the hours a traditional team would bill:
| Task | Hours |
|---|---|
| Discovery, scope and sitemap | 6 |
| Design: home page and two templates | 14 |
| Build: 12 pages, blog, forms | 22 |
| Content carried over | 8 |
| Redirect map and SEO checks | 5 |
| Testing on phones, tablets and browsers | 5 |
| Launch, training and handover | 4 |
| Total | 64 hours |
At a typical agency rate of $150 an hour, that is $9,600 + GST. Our fixed price for the same scope is $4,500, about 53% less. The difference is how the work is done: AI agents do much of the build, content and testing, and a senior engineer directs and reviews it. The hours table still matters, because it shows you exactly what you are getting.
Why quotes for the "same" website vary so much
If you collect three quotes you might see $1,500, $6,000 and $25,000. They are rarely for the same thing. Ask each one:
- Is it a fixed price, or an estimate that can grow?
- How many design revisions are included?
- Who moves the content, and is it checked?
- Is there a redirect map, so Google rankings survive?
- Who owns the domain, the content and the code afterwards?
- What does hosting and support cost each month, and can I leave?
- Who does the work: the person I'm talking to, or someone else?
A cheap quote that leaves out content, redirects and support often costs more by the end of the first year. An expensive one may be paying for layers of account management you never needed.
The ongoing cost
Budget for running costs as well as the build. A typical business website costs $49 to $150 a month to host, monitor, back up and keep updated. Shopify stores pay Shopify's own monthly plan plus any apps. If you want the site to keep improving, a care retainer of $450 to $1,500 a month pays for regular small changes.
How to get an accurate number
