Auckland developer turns spare AI capacity into free websites for charities

For a limited time, selected charities and not-for-profits get their website or app built free, from AI capacity that would otherwise go unused.

Auckland, 16 October 2026. NetPotential, the Rosedale web development agency founded by Tim Thomas in 2003, has launched the Token Burner: a way for charities, community groups and businesses to pitch an idea and have it built using the AI capacity the agency has left over each week.

NetPotential builds websites, online stores and apps with AI agents, directed and reviewed by Thomas, and pays for a large weekly AI allowance to do it. Paying client work typically uses about half of that allowance. The rest resets at the end of the week whether it is used or not.

To launch the Token Burner, NetPotential is building selected projects for registered charities and not-for-profits free of charge: both the AI work and Thomas’s own time. Only a handful of places are available, and the offer is for a limited time while the agency builds its first case studies.

“Every week I pay for AI capacity, and every week about half of it resets unused. There’s no point letting it go to waste when it could be building a donation page for an animal rescue or a volunteer portal for a community group. So for a while, we’re putting it towards good causes, free.”

Who can apply

Applications take about two minutes. NetPotential is especially looking for:

  • animal rescue and welfare
  • children and education
  • community initiatives
  • helping people in need
  • any good cause serving humanity

The Token Burner is a curated selection, and most pitches will not be picked. Selected charities pay nothing for the build; minimal hard costs such as domain registration and hosting are passed on. After the launch offer, picked charity projects get 75% off NetPotential’s published prices and commercial projects 50% off. Builds use spare capacity only, so they fit around paying client work.

Picked projects are shared openly, with the organisation’s agreement, on LinkedIn and NetPotential’s website: what was built, how, and how fast. Confidential information is never published.
